I’m so proud of this project! It was such fun to collaborate with the lovely and talented illustrator Laura Irrgang, and authors Alice Beltran and Karen Kim Mar for Abrams Publishing.
This graphic novel is the first of its kind, and it was a blast working through all the details to bring it to life! The result is a colorful, fun, new way of knitting instruction, and the acclaim for its ingenuity (and engaging illustrations if I do say so myself) has been overwhelming.
Knitstrips is an omnibus of sorts – containing separate, full comic strips of knitting stories, illustration, instruction, and guidance – all drawn by me and Laura throughout. Alice and Karen are the brilliant creators and writers, and a whole team of knitting creators were on board to contribute their unique patterns and visions. I also got to flex my layout skills for this project. My prior experience as a designer in and outside of the publishing world came in very handy.
Here’s a little bit more of some of my pieces of the book – but I highly recommend you check it out for yourself at your local store (or Amazon)! You never know what fun might ensue…

Cover for the Focus Pocus project and story. This may have been my very favorite piece to create! The details are SO fun.
Ok I know I said Focus Pocus was my favorite illustration… but then I remember this strip. The knitter Lauren is the model here, too – such an honor to represent her!

If you know me at all, you know detail is my jam. these vocabulary of stitches pages let that shine through. Lower right pictures authors Alice and Karen!
